What is Spirometry Test?
Spirometry is the endorsed lung function test for the diagnosis and monitoring of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is a safe, easy, simple and painless test to determine how well your lungs is functioning. The test is done via a machine called a spirometer. The purpose of the test is to diagnose and evaluate the status of your lungs and the severity of the condition, so the doctor can determine your treatment goals and assess improvements or changes over time.
Despite the importance of spirometry, recent Australian and international research has revealed that spirometry is greatly under-utilised. This is resulting in people being misdiagnosed with respiratory conditions. Many lung conditions can cause discomfort and shortness of breath due to narrowed airways, which can hinder day-to-day activities, and in some cases, detrimentally impact employment opportunities depending on the nature of the job. The under or over-diagnosis of respiratory conditions can potentially affect your overall health, as unsuitable treatments may have been prescribed.
At central health clinic, our spirometry test is done by either a doctor or our fully qualified Nurse who has years of experience in providing personal and comprehensive care.
